Former chairman of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Kweneng region, Kgang Kgang, has filed an appeal following his chairmanship loss in the recent regional elections for Kweneng East.

The elections were part of the party’s decision to divide Kweneng region. In the new dispensation, Kweneng East comprise Mogoditshane, Mmankgodi-Gabane, Lentsweletau, Thamaga, while Kweneng West is made up of Molepolole North, Molepolole South, Takatokwane and Letlhakeng-Lephephe. This, said the ruling party, is intended for proper monitoring and management, as the region was deemed too big for effective management.

Sources close to Kgang say he has now filed an appeal citing irregularities in the elections and clear cheating antics by his competitor Peter Tumedi. It is also said that he complained against the elections officer, Gaborone regional secretary Ontibile Kgomoyarona, accusing him of campaigning for the opposing camp in the run-up to the elections. Kgang who is said to be an ally of the vice president and party chairman Mokgweetsi Masisi has been Kweneng regional chairman for six months after being elected early this year.
