Jwaneng misses big on ESP

JWANENG: Realising that mining will not enjoy much of the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP), the Jwaneng Town Council resolved to include a preferential clause in their tendering documents to favour local companies.

The town was only awarded a classroom block, a toilet block and an LA 2 house at Jwana Primary School, with the central government in the area receiving nothing. To add salt to injury for the residents, the tenders for the projects have been awarded to companies with no operations in the town.  The classroom block was awarded to Envolve Group PTY (LTD) at a tune of P830,680, Sedzembuya Enterprise pty (LTD) got their share of P732,234 for the LA 2 house, while a nine unit toilet block was awarded to Zatpro Enterprise pty (LTD).  The Jwaneng Chamber of Commerce and civic leaders, who were hoping to see the local community benefiting from such a programme, have not welcomed such a development. Currently construction is taking place at the site but councillors were forced to come up with an immediate solution during their heated full council meeting on Friday.

Nominated Councillor Benjamin Bakwena related that it was unfortunate for the much-anticipated programme to start on a low note in their district.
