Interns forge ahead with suit against MoESD

Temporary employees in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) have won the first round of the legal battle with their employer after their “legitimate expectations” to be absorbed within the Ministry were crushed.

The temporary employees or interns will now argue their case in court following Gaborone High Court Justice Gaolapelwe Ketlogetswe’s ruling last week.

At the centre of the dispute are two savingrams, one from the Permanent Secretary (PS) from the ministry dated October 8, 2012 conferring certain rights or expectations about employment and the other from the acting PS dated December 29, 2014 subsequently withdrawing those rights or expectations. The then PS was Grace Muzila while the acting PS was Nnosang Mohutsiwa.
