Increase in forged travelling documents

The police say they have recorded an increase in forged Emergency Travelling Documents (ETD) during the festive season. Tlokweng Police Station commander, Superintendent Moitaly Thokweng says that they have arrested at least 10 foreigners in connection with the crime.

"Most of the foreigners, who were in possession of fake ETDs were Zimbabweans. Some of them even had the same serial numbers," he said.
He added that most Zimbabweans rounded up during the festive season were in possession of the ETDs and not passports.

"They were in possession of ETDs instead of their passports. This is a worrisome development because ETDs are only used for emergency purposes," he said. He said the police have warned the immigration department about the problem but the situation has not improved. Efforts to get a comment from immigration department were unsuccessful as the officers declined to comment.
