Education Minister, Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has trashed suggestions that her efforts at mitigating negative publicity that the BDP has been receiving since the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) split are an attempt to earn herself a more senior position within the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Following media reports that Venson-Moitoi was heading a 'BDP think tank' that was working on media strategy, there has been much speculation that the Education Minister is well aware that she is heading an exit ministry and that she needs to position herself if she is to fare any better than her predecessors. With most ministers, who led Venson-Moitoi's Ministry of Education having ended up with dead political careers, being at the helm of the ministry has become something of a jinx.

"I am not positioning myself for anything. Like any BDP member I realised that there was a need and volunteered my time. The BDP is a voluntary organisation and any member is free to make any contribution for the benefit of the party," she said.
