There are types of diamond sales - to sightholders, and auctions or tenders. De Beers operates mines in Canada, South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. It takes its output and has contracted/licensed sightholders or diamond manufacturers.

A sightholder is a company that has a right/licence to view, buy and process diamonds, and there are 21 of them operating in Botswana.
