High HIV prevalence amongst youth worries MYSC

FRANCISTOWN: The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture (MYSC) is hosting a four-day life skills workshop in a bid to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS amongst the youth.

The workshop, ending today, aims to sensetise the youth under the Tirelo Sechaba, Internship programme as well as Graduate Voluntary Scheme (GVS) on issues of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).  According to the 2013 BAIS report, Francistown is one of the highest hit areas in the country with an HIV/AIDS prevalence rate of 23.1% with the national prevalence rate at 17%.

In an interview with Mmegi, MYSC district youth coordinator, Minkie Bokole said the ministry is concerned that the most affected population is the youth.
