FRANCISTOWN: A 36-year-old man from Kalakamati village appeared before the Francistown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face one count of murder.

The state alleges that Oketsang Mathumo, an assistant motor mechanic murdered Florah Chabaesele, 34, at his place of residence in Somerset Extension on September 8, 2019.

The police say that Mathumo stabbed Chabaesele with a sharp object suspected to be a knife on the throat following a love misunderstanding.

Inspector Cecilia Nchochi applied for the accused to be remanded in custody because he is facing a very serious offence.

“The investigations into this matter have just commenced.  The accused was arrested at his home village of Kalakamati after he allegedly committed the offence.  We have sent some exhibits to the forensic laboratory for analysis.

We therefore apply for the accused to be remanded in custody pending police investigations,” Nchochi said.

Magistrate Kose Makobo set the matter for September 23 for status hearing.
