PALAPYE: A habitual offender has denied some of his previous convictions, saying he appealed the matters and won. The accused, Aromilwe Gaothobogwe, made his protestations when his previous record was being read out, as he was being committed to the High Court for sentencing in his latest convictions which include robbery, rape and theft.

The court alleges that on February 12, 2016 at Serorome ward, Gaothobogwe beat a woman with his  fists, tied her hands and legs and raped her. He also stole the woman’s bag, Nokia Aisha worth P1,500, Lenovo tablet worth P3,000 and P90 cash.

Appearing before his committal, prosecutors said Gaothobogwe’s convictions date as far back as 2004 and involve minor charges of robbery, for which he was sentenced to four strokes at the Palapye Customary Court.
