Grasshopper Shoe Craze Divides Students

The demand for this shoe has caused many parents who are at the mercy of their children to part with the P450 while those parents who cannot afford can only admire the shoes from a distance.

According to a student in Gaborone, the shoe is worshipped so much that no one would want to be seen wearing long trousers which cover half of it. "That is why you see most school boys wearing shorter trousers to expose the shoes," he said. It is all about being seen, attracting attention and belonging to that crowd who own the shoe. In schools like Gaborone Senior Secondary School (GSS)  "there is a group of boys who move in a group and wear those shoes.
