On Friday, 15 November 2024, Grant Thornton Botswana, in collaboration with Therisanyo Primary School management, planted 85 trees donated through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to enhance the school’s surroundings, provide shade for students, and promote environmental conservation.

Commenting on the tree-planting event, Mr. Aswin Vaidyanathan, Senior Partner and Head of Assurance at Grant Thornton Botswana, stated, “Our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles is rooted in our mission to drive meaningful change. By planting these 85 trees, we are investing in the well-being of future generations, supporting education, and emphasising the importance of environmental conservation. On that note, I must also appreciate the partnership of our clients in this initiative who have played a meaningful role in aligning with Grant Thornton’s objectives of positively impacting the community as well as improving client service offering.”

This tree-planting initiative was part of Grant Thornton’s 2024 "Client Voice" feedback programme, which committed to planting trees in partnership with clients, which resulted in 85 diverse trees and plants planted at the school in Old Naledi, transforming the school grounds into a greener, more sustainable, and inviting environment. Two months ago, Grant Thornton also celebrated ‘Grant Thornton in the community’ day at the same school by donating an Interactive LED flat panel (Smart Board) to improve access to educational resources and support digitization of schools. Grant Thornton Botswana has a proud history of supporting education in Botswana, contributing to institutions such as Learn to Play Bontleng Community, Tshwaragano Primary School, Therisanyo Primary School, Gamodubu Child Care Trust, Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre, and Dinaletsana Development Centre.

Through activities like this, Grant Thornton reaffirms its dedication to environmental sustainability and community development. The firm encourages other organisations to adopt ESG practices and join in creating a positive and lasting impact for future generations.
