Gov't inspects COVID-19 council projects

Efforts to carry out the inspections come in the wake of recent accusation that some councils have been corruptly awarding ‘exorbitant’ tenders for COVID-19 projects.

“It is true the Ministry has a task team which comprises 10 people. They are checking if the tendering process was followed and whether the projects were completed or not. They do visit the projects and check if things are working properly or not. The other updates that they want is for the COVID-19 food basket on how it was dispensed and criteria used to give it out food. The task team has so far visited more than five councils,” a source said.
