Govt Advised Against Sponsoring Business, ICT Courses

The Botswana Government has been advised to stop sponsoring business and Information Communication Technology (ICT) courses, as graduates in these fields find it hard to find employment.

The acting CEO of the Human Resources Development Council (HRDC), Patrick Molutsi told the media at the beginning of the Human Resource Development and Skills fair, that the most unemployed graduates are from these fields.

“We have advised the Department of Tertiary Education Funding (DTEF) to reduce sponsorship on Business and ICT related courses, statistically, in the next three years we will have more business and ICT graduates and less of science and agriculture, tourism graduates and the market is already congested of these graduates,” Molutsi said. Formerly known as Botswana Tertiary Education Fair (BTEF), the weeklong fair commences today at the Fairgrounds, and is held under the theme, ‘Guidance for Human Resource development, gateway towards diversifying Botswana’s economy’.
