As the government and the Botswana Doctors Union (BDU)'s emergency call allowance remains unresolved, the Ministry of Health has moved to adopt the use of shifts to ameliorate the disputes between the two institutions.

For months now, the government has been embroiled with doctors over their allowances, which saw the disputes reach the courts. Addressing the nation yesterday on national TV, both Minister Stephen Modise and permanent secretary Oatlhokwa Nkomazana said the strategy would address the concerns of doctors.

PS Nkomazana said the use of the shift policy will relieve doctors of the heavy schedule that the latter are complaining about.
