Ghanaians In Botswana Celebrate Golden Jubilee

The Ghanaians Association in Botswana (GAB) has organised a number of activities to commemorate their country's golden jubilee. On Friday, GAB staged an exhibition of Ghana products with background information on the country's history at the Gaborone Sun. This culminated in a dinner dance in the evening.

Veteran politician, Motsamai Mpho told the GAB event that when Ghana  gained independence, he was a member of African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa. At the celebrations, he showed an old copy of a letter Ghana's founding father Kwame Nkrumah wrote to him in 1957 in reply to a missive he sent the Ghanaian leader, congratulating him when the country attained independence. Mpho regards Nkrumah as a star of African liberation. "Nkurumah was a man of the people," he said. He asserted that Nkrumah was sincere when he said Africa must unite.

He said Ghana was used as a sharpening stone by the liberation movements. He said liberation figures used to visit the West African country to reinvigorate themselves ideologically.
