General nurses might drop specialised duties

General nurses are likely to stop performing specialised duties like midwifery, psychiatric nursing, community health nursing by April.

This will follow a resolution by the Botswana Land Boards, Local Authorities and Health Workers Union (BLLHWU) and the Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU), after nationwide consultations.

In an interview with Mmegi yesterday, BLLAHWU's secretary general, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, the two unions will undertake a consultative tour on performance of specialised duties next month. He said doing duties they were not paid for should stop unless government remunerated them for dual performing.
