Gender representation promotes diversity - Raphael

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Botswana Association of Local Authorities Association's women commissioner Zubeida Raphael says under-representation of a specific gender in decision-making may make it difficult for them to accept the legitimacy of the decisions taken.

Speaking during the official launch of Selebi-Phikwe Gender Committee last Friday Raphael said that involving both male and female in decision-making would enhance the prospects of diversity.

She noted that gender mainstreaming is a global strategy for the promotion of gender equality as stated in the Beijing Platform for Action from the fourth United Nations World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995.
