Gaborone City councillors have resolved to partner with property developers as a way of trying to address the issue of high rentals in the city, Mmegi has learnt. The resolutions were taken on Tuesday during a special council meeting.

The councillors said if the local authority could partner with property developers, it would be able to provide low cost housing for people and even council employees.

“Rental is very expensive in the city and most people cannot afford it.  Again some landlords hike prices every year without even considering the state of the house.  Some houses are not even in a good condition to be rented out,” the mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe said.
