GCC overwhelmed by sewage spillage in SHHA areas

The escalation of sewage spillage in Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) areas has been attributed to the continuous breakdown of vacuum tanks as Gaborone City Council (GCC) looks for other means to address this problem

.At a GCC full council meeting this Monday, city mayor Veronica Lesole admitted that lack of funds to purchase new tankers has resulted in the accumulation of a backlog of over 1,000 households that have pit latrines and septic tanks that need to be emptied.

Lesole stated that the situation is very serious as sewage is over spilling in most of the SHHA areas. "The department has since requested the department of transport to expedite repairs of the vacuum tankers," Lesole said.
