Orphaned after losing a father, mother and brother in successive years and feeling disconsolate, Joshua Bondo, then a tailor, turned to refereeing. His first match gave him a discouraging P75 but instead he was galvanised. He hasn’t lost his pace of 15 years ago and still walks upright, oozing the same confidence he carried when he blew the first whistle. Bondo has survived a difficult childhood to grow into one of the finest middlemen Botswana has ever produced.

From earning a meagre P75 per match, Bondo was never discouraged but instead was spurred on. His career keeps touching new heights with each passing assignment. He has been to hostile atmospheres in the north and west of the continent, travelled 38 countries and his hunger keeps swelling.
