A 30-year-old Mokgatla man of Oodi village is demanding P250, 000 in damages for violation of his human rights after he was flogged by Madibelankwe regiment for violating his human rights last month.

Obakeng Motsamai said that he was dragged before the Madibelankwe at Oodi Kgotla last month after he disciplined his niece for locking him out of their family house. Motsamai said that his niece had reported the matter to the police and that he was shocked when the regiment members summoned and decided to whip him on his back. He said that what even irks him more is that despite his protestations that he had serious medical conditions, like pneumonia, they continued to whip him. "I lost a lot of blood and even now I have wounds on my back. The reason I wanted only to deal with the matter through the police is that the law would not allow for someone as sickly as me to be whipped. My human rights were violated and at the [modern] courts, if found guilty,  they would have given me a fine or a prison sentence. This flogging was unlawful and has complicated my health. They put my life in danger," he said.

Motsamai has  also  said that  the  Madibelankwe trial against him was suspect as there was no headman to conduct the proceedings. He said it was a Kangaroo court that was out to punish him.
