Fights in and around bars, shebeens worrisome

Broadhurst police are worried by the upsurge in fights that occur in and around bars, shebeens and other entertainment areas that usually lead to serious bodily harm or death.

The concern follows an incident in which a young man was stabbed with a knife in Extension 27 in Broadhurst, Gaborone on Saturday night at a shebeen and sustained serious injuries. Broadhurst Police Station commander, Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae told The Monitor most of these fights erupt between people who know each other either as friends or those who had spent the night together drinking alcohol.

“These fights usually include arguments during beer drinking, fights over money, and arguments of partners in relationships and they usually occur on month-end when both victims and perpetrators are intoxicated.
