FCC cllrs accuse staff of negligence

FRANCISTOWN: Councillors at the Francistown City Council (FCC) have expressed frustrations with the council staff, accusing them of neglecting their duties, which has impacted badly on developments civic leaders advocated for. Councillors cried that they were being bottlenecked by staff who either respond to their queries late, or simply turn a blind eye to queries.

“These people (referring to the council staff) have a tendency of doing nothing about our queries until the last minute before the next full council meeting where they write ‘issue pending’ or ‘awaiting response’,” said one angry councillor. The Tuesday meeting at the on-going ordinary full council meeting, which comes to an end tomorrow, was characterised by angry outbursts from councillors who felt hard done by the civil servants.

The city clerk Leboile Israel had just finished reading the action sheet when one after the other the councillors stood up to air their grievances.  Councillors said that some of the questions that they asked as far as four years ago and beyond were still ‘awaiting responses’ and they demanded to be told what the problem is.  Councillor Robert Mosweu said that ever since they came to council they have been waiting for responses but it has never happened and said that it was frustrating their efforts to serve the people.
