KGOMOKASITWA: The grieving family of the three victims who were brutally murdered in Kgomokasitwa is demanding answers from the accused Moagi Mokomeng, a Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldier.

On February 25, 2025, Mokomeng, a Lance Corporal soldier based at Glen Valley camp, allegedly shot Elizabeth Ramolala and two of her grandchildren, Katlego Ramolala and Alefha Ramolala, and torched the house with their bodies inside. Only one grandchild of the elderly woman survived the soldier's attack, as well as the neighbour who happens to be a police officer, Thabo Dibotelo. He survived a gunshot wound to his right shin.

The incident has since left the quiet village of Kgmokasitwa in disbelief and has sparked a lot of theories on social media, with people wondering what could have led to Mokomeng's killing spree. Some people speculate that Mokomeng killed the Ramolala family over a defilement case stemming from 2022. It is alleged that before the incident, Mokomeng was served with court papers which may have set him on the rampage.

Whilst some people hint that it runs deep and it might not just be over being served court papers alone, and speculated that he built the house for the Ramolala family for the case to be dismissed. The Ramolala family has since dismissed the argument, arguing that their mother was an independent woman who built her own house as she is a retired deputy school head.

Speaking at the funeral service, Rakhudu Moilwa stated that they are still struggling to come to terms with what befell their family on February 25, voicing his frustration and pain. He acknowledged that there have been speculation about his family across Botswana, which has not been good. "A lot is being said about our family but I want to say you can see there in newspapers and social media what is being said but one issue is that we all don't know where we are going to get the answer for all that in this tragedy that befell us and our family's name being dragged in the mud," he said. The grieving family member stated that there is only one person who can clear their name, the accused person in the tragedy.

"There is only one person who can answer all these questions, but I don't want to say God is the one who can answer, when the man who did all this can answer for his crime," he said.

Moilwa wished for those close to the accused Mokomeng to ask him to provide answers as to why he committed such a heinous crime.
