Exodus of specialists gives Seakgosing a headache

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Minister of Health John Seakgosing revealed recently at a special full council meeting here that a big number of citizen health professionals are working abroad.

"We have a problem because our children do not want to work locally. We just train a huge number of specialists for other countries. Most Batswana physiotherapists are currently based in the United States of America (USA) and Australia," he said.

He, however, acknowledged that salaries offered here are paltry compared to host countries'. He added that Botswana is training pharmacists in Lesotho and expects 15 to arrive in December this year, 10 in May next year, seven in December 2014 and six in 2015.
