Ex-govt employee gets 10 years for robbery

FRANCISTOWN: Senior Magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalu yesterday sentenced an environmental health assistant at Tonota Sub-district, Gofaone Randele, to 10 years in jail for robbery.

Randele was found guilty of breaking into a house belonging to Balengi Jimmy at Borolong Village near Francistown where he stole three cellphones valued at P6,400 and P5,000 in cash.  He committed the crime on December 20 in 2011 and also made away with two handbags containing Naomi Jimmy’s passport and Omang. Randele used violence when he committed the offences. Last week prosecutor Tebogo Mabodisa applied that Randele be treated as a first offender.

In summary of the evidence, Mulalu said that on December 18, 2011 Randele was instructed by his employers to go on an anti-malaria exercise in Borolong.
