Botswana Institute of Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Offenders (BIRRO), an association of ex-convicts, has expressed concerns at the developing trend of police officers shooting at unarmed suspects in after hours operations.

Police officers, working with other law enforcement agencies, have in recent times been involved in several incidents where suspects, were shot dead or injured in a shoot-out.

Speaking at an interactive session at Cresta Saturday, the BIRRO director, Mothei Sejakgomo told the attendants, among them the Central Police station Commander, Superintendent Modisaotsile Bonang and Prisons Service Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Wamorena Ramolefhe, that they are concerned by rising fatal police operations most of which happens at night and the excitement they seem to arise in the officers.
