Evelyn Makhura Machete well known as “Mma Sophia” was born on the January 1, 1910 at Motlhabaneng, a village situated in the Bobirwa district near Tuli Block.

She was the daughter to David Makhura and Mokgadi Makhura, who belonged to the royal family of the Babirwa tribe.

Her family were the first descendants to Motlhabaneng who played a pivotal role in the growth of the village that was a settlement before. In 1986, Motlhabaneng was gazetted to being called a village.
