Mmegi investigations have revealed that scores of former Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies (GIPS) students continue to enjoy the living allowance government pays students on its scholarship.

The individuals applied for extension of their scholarships but missed the institution’s registration deadline. Sources say that they continue to draw the monthly student allowance despite failing to register with the institution.

While not ruling out the possibility of the incident, GIPS Centre Manager Golekanye Setume said they are not aware of any former students who are enjoying student allowances. He admitted that it would not be easy to know if some unregistered students are drawing the student allowance. He said if they could get evidence that the reported incident is true, they would report the matter to the ministry.
