Domkrag splinter party in the offing?

The fate of three members of the Barata-Phathi faction of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) accused of conniving with the opposition is to be discussed at a BDP central committee meeting scheduled for March 1.

But the faction is consulting on the feasibility of forming a new party. Speculation is rife that the A-Team faction want the trio - attorney Sidney Pilane, MP Botsalo Ntuane and Kabo Morwaeng expelled from the party.

Speaking to Mmegi on condition of anonymity recently, a leading Barata-Phathi member said they were consulting throughout the country to "consider options available", among them to break ranks to form a new party.
