President Ian Khama has extended Chief Justice Maruping Dibotelo’s term to end on June 30, 2018. Dibotelo said this on Friday during excellence awards ceremony for the Administration of Justice (AoJ).

Dibotelo was set to retire from service when he turns 70 in October, which is retirement age of High Court judges, including Chief Justice, in terms of the Section 97(1) of the Constitution.

“Last month the Judicial Service Commission, after taking into account the volume of cases before me, made the recommendation to the President in terms of the proviso to section 97(1) of the Constitution to permit me to continue in office up to April 30, 2018 for the purpose of completing proceedings that were commenced before I reached the retirement age.
