Delays in tertiary sponsorships recur

Delays in processing sponsorships for first year students enrolled at public and private institutions continue to reek. Every year, the Department of Tertiary Education Financing (DTEF) finds itself racing against time as learning institutions open, before the education financier completes processing requests for sponsorship.

A number of students who have received admission letters await their fate in the journey of the alphabet- not sure whether they progress or go back home, as parents cannot afford to pay their tuition fees.

The DTEF told students last Friday that their staff was working hard to process all applications, despite challenges causing the delays. All students; be it first years, progressing, restatements and retakes were told that the department would communicate with them through short message service (SMS) once their applications were processed. The situation cuts across all students; those progressing, who froze sponsorships and are now continuing, as well as those who have failed courses from previous academic levels or semesters.
