Day 3 of an intensive search for a 12-year-old boy feared to have been attacked by a crocodile has resumed. As of 10 am this morning, the search continues.

Maun Police Station Commander Joseph Lepodise has confirmed that after pausing the search late yesterday and resumed early this morning. This search is a joint operation between the Police, Botswana Defence Force (BDF), the District Council’s Disaster Management Unit, and local divers familiar with the river system. “We stopped the search late evening because it was getting late. But we resumed the search around 6 am and we are still on as we speak,” Lepodise said.

The child, whose name has not yet been released, reportedly disappeared while swimming near the Thamalakane River on Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses told Police that the boy was last seen in the water before suddenly vanishing, prompting fears of a crocodile attack.

This is a developing matter.
