Create decent paying jobs, govt told

Opposition parties have accused government of not committing itself to the realisation of decent work, which is epitomised by lack of constructive social dialogue.

The criticism was made recently at a panel discussion on the Botswana Decent Work Country Programme (BDWCP) held at the University of Botswana. The five-year action plan advocates a conducive and fairly rewarding work environment through the four pillars of employment creation; social protection; social dialogue; and protection of workers' rights.

Panellists included Elmon Tafa, of the Botswana National Front (BNF), Dithapelo Keorapetse, from the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), MacDonald Keogotsitse, Botswana Movement of Democracy (BMD) and Kgang Kgang, from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
