Court Saves Namibian Refugees

LOBATSE: Acting Lobatse High Court judge, Jennifer Dube, on Friday confirmed an interim order preventing government from repatriating 732 Namibian refugees. The Namibian refugees, who live at Dukwi Refugee Camp, took the government to court, challenging its decision to repatriate them by December 31, 2015.

Delivering judgement, Justice Dube said the refugees arrived in Botswana during various dates between 1998 and 2002 fleeing the Namibian security forces who had in that period conducted searches in the Caprivi Strip (now Zambezi region) following reports of uprising and paramilitary activity by people known as the Caprivi African National Union (CANU).
