Court order delays Serowe meeting

SEROWE: The nullification of Ignatius Moswaane's candidacy for Francistown West constituency by the court nearly had a catastrophic aftershock here, such that a meeting scheduled for last Friday morning by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) central committee had to be postponed to the afternoon.

Moswaane’s competitor Whyte Marobela had sought the intervention of the court against the outcome of the primary elections in which the former was the winner. BDP bigwigs were supposed to meet for pre-primary elections counselling for party members in Serowe’s four constituencies and all the parliamentary and council candidates.

Mmegi is reliably informed that the BDP was expected to file an urgent application with the High Court on Monday to have their candidate nominated on Friday.  In Serowe, from 10am on Friday, members of the ruling party clad in party regalia had already thronged the office where the meeting was supposed to be held but was told of the postponement two hours later.
