FRANCISTOWN: Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) secretary Gabriel Seeletso has urged councillors to sensitise the public regarding the new electronic voting machines.

He made the appeal on Monday at the Adansonia Hotel when officiating at a workshop to educate councillors from the northern part of the country about the envisaged plans to replace the ballot box and paper with the electronic voting machines, after the law has been passed by Parliament.

Seeletso urged the councillors to take the message to the public so that they can have trust and confidence on the credibility of the 2019 general elections results where the machines may be used. “The machines are user friendly, stand alone machines and free from hacking. We envisage that the machines will greatly speed up the electoral process. The machines have a lifespan of a minimum 25 years and are comparatively cheaper to run,” said Seeletso.
