Constable in court over child dispute

A female police constable was yesterday, hauled before the Broadhurst Magistrate Court for denying her ex-boyfriend access to their six-year old child.

Magistrate Daniel Nkau advised the couple to act in the best interest of the child and advised female constable, Kgakgamatso Pule, to allow her ex-boyfriend to see their son. "Why can't the child be granted access to his father if the father is around and willing to be there?" he asked. Nkau emphasised that it was Nelson Mwaanga's responsibility to be there for his child. He, however, said that Pule should not hesitate to apply for maintenance if Mwaanga does not support the child.

Nkau observed that the two former lovebirds had unresolved issues from their past relationship and advised them to address them instead of running to court.  He said that the court could cause nothing but harm, as the other party would feel betrayed for being dragged to court.
