Constable fined for refusing breath test

JWANENG: A constable within the Special Support Group (SSG), Keleabetswe Learabea has up to May 31 to pay an P800 fine or spend six months in jail, after being convicted of failing to provide a breath sample in a suspected drunken driving traffic offence.

Magistrate Segametsi Basinyi slapped the penalty on the youthful police officer last week, after Learabea pleaded guilty to the offence. Learabea gave his seniors, Assistant Commissioner Boikhutso Dintwa and Sergeant Leanang Oidilwe, a hard time during a confrontation at Kaduwe area during the annual desert race last year, when he refused to  have them take a breath sample from him.

According to the facts before court, on June 27, 2015, the accused was driving a motor vehicle when he was stopped by a police patrol team, comprising of Dintwa and Oidilwe.
