Clinics transfer move gets mixed reactions

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Government's decision to transfer clinics from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Health has been greeted with mixed emotions by councillors.

Speaking in a full council meeting held on Wednesday, Hospital ward councillor Odirile Kelebetse said the decision has come at a wrong time and it is unnecessary. He complained that the Selebi-Phikwe Government Hospital is in a bad state of disrepair and patients receive poor services from its personnel. He argued that when the health ministry takes over clinics, the situation is bound to get worse. "Wards at the hospital are not partitioned and there is no privacy for patients. The roof is also leaking in most of the wards.

The hospital workers are not delivering as expected because they are demoralised. The government must first address the hospital concerns before thinking of taking over clinics," he said.
