SELEBI-PHIKWE: Botshabelo police, last year alone, registered 40 cases of sexual abuse, 10 of which were defilement cases.

The police in the area attributed this sad development to the lack of parental guidance on the girl children. Apparently, parents are relaxed and do not take care of their teenage girls who are usually spotted in unsafe places during peculiar hours.

Speaking during a women empowerment workshop in Botshabelo on Wednesday, the area station commander, superintendent Gothusamang Badubi, expressed concern over this trend. He noted that just last week Botshabelo police recorded two cases of defilement in Tobane and Sefhophe involving girls aged 13 and 14. Only one suspect has so far been arrested and the cases are yet to be taken to the Magistrates Court.
