Wildlife rangers literally went on a wild goose chase after some long-nosed Pinnochios claimed to have seen three buffaloes in the Kgatleng District on Friday.

Senior Wildlife Warden in Mochudi, Gaone Nkganetsang told The Monitor Friday morning her office received reports that buffaloes were spotted near Dikgonnye on Thursday afternoon. However, when game scouts reached the area, tipsters later changed the story and said they saw prints they believed to be those of buffaloes. Nkganetsang said game scouts were yet to ascertain if the prints were of buffaloes or cattle.

“This is because it is not easy to differentiate between the two animals’ prints as they look similar when they move slowly,” she said.
