BTU Congress Successful � Kenosi

The Secretary General of the Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) Ibo Kenosi yesterday declared his double-header of National Council and Extra-ordinary Congress both a success. The BTU held the two events on Saturday in Palapye.

Talking to The Monitor last night Kenosi said the extra-ordinary congress which mainly looked at constitutional amendments achieved its purpose, adding that the new constitution of the BTU will soon be registered, paving the way for the largest teachers union to hold their elective congress most probably in July this year.

The highlights of the constitutional amendments, among others, include trimming down the number of delegates to national council, from the traditional 365 to about 70, a thing that Kenosi says will make the National Council manageable.
