BSSE curriculum not practical

The current Botswana Senior Secondary Education (BSSE) curriculum is grooming students for passing examinations instead of instilling sustainable practical skills that broaden opportunities after basic education training, the Department of Curriculum Development and Evaluation has said.

As a result, the department is reviewing the curriculum which has not been reconsidered since its inception in 1996 and is now overdue. This is according to Acting Principal Education Officer I, Molaodi Menyatso, as he addressed participants at the BSSE blueprint consultative forum in the capital yesterday.  

"The curriculum is unable to unleash learners' potential and development because it is exams orientated," Menyatso said.Besides lacking practical education, the syllabuses were found to be congested, limited flexibility that hinders learners to make subject choices in line with their career interests.
