Botswana's travel and tourism competitiveness declines

The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2013 has shown that out of 140 countries around the world, Botswana stands at number 94, which is a decline from position 91 in 2011. In the Sub Saharan Africa region, Botswana has been ranked 7th.

Launching the report, which has been released by the World Economic Forum under the theme, "Reducing barriers to economic growth and job creation," the Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Neil Fitt said the report points to enablers of tourism support structures as the source of the setback.

Fitt said that the report identifies attitude to foreigners as one of the aspects that need urgent attention.Batswana's attitude towards foreigners has been ranked number 103 out of 140 countries while major challenges have also been identified in the information and communication technology infrastructure and the role it plays on tourism.
