'Botswana must define its stance on human rights'

International human rights standards should constitute legal obligations for any state, a representative of Geneva For Human Rights, Adrien-Claude Zoller, has said.

Giving an overview of national plans for a Comprehensive Human Rights Strategy and National Action Plan (CHRSNAP), he said human rights are diverse and need a comprehensive plan that has legal obligations.

Speaking at a two-day workshop that began at Lions Park near Gaborone on Tuesday, Zoller said with every country having its own history and socio-economic context, it is important for the national action plan to be specific and pragmatic in order to work and to work for its people.
