Larger-than-life figure at Botswana Public Employees’ Union (BOPEU), Andrew Motsamai could be out of work by today after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at a Central Business District (CBD) hotel on Saturday decided to fire the former BOPEU president. Motsamai was last year elevated to the position of executive chairperson.

Insiders who attended the BOPEU NEC meeting informed Mmegi that the meeting was called exclusively with this agenda item on the table. The BOPEU NEC’s decision was expected to be the guiding light when its business wing board, Babereki Investments, where Motsamai is employed as the executive chairperson, met on Monday and triggered into action the decision of BOPEU, the sole owners of Babereki Investments.

When Mmegi reached Motsamai for comment Saturday evening, he said if such a decision had been taken by his superiors, he was not aware of it, or any meeting that discussed his fate in his absence. “Comrade, I read on Facebook, just like you. If it is true, I will confirm when I have received the letter of the sacking you are asking me about”.
