BOPEU interdicts gov't over de-recognition decision

Botswana Public Sectors Union (BOPEU) has filed an urgent application seeking to interdict the government’s decision to de-recognise it as a trade union.

BOPEU, as one of the unions affected by the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) decision in a letter dated October 16, 2018 to de-recognise trade unions is seeking immediate recognition by government as it has been and to an extent all the rights of the collective bargaining until the finalisation of the matter.

In an affidavit deposed by the union president, Masego Mogwera dated October 23, 2018 the union wants the government to stop giving effect to the decision DPSM and their rights and obligation to apply fully until a review application is filed to review and set aside the decision.
