President Duma Boko has preached for peace and harmony as the country celebrates 59 years of independence

Boko shared this, during his first independence message as the President.

The President said with peace and harmony in one’s everyday life comes healing. The President gave an example of the courage displayed by world athletics 4x4 and Olympic gold medallist Tebogo Letsile.

“I encourage all of you Batswana, to increase peace and harmony in our homes, to be healing weaknesses in the lives of others, every day. Take the other cheek if necessary. When Letsile was temporarily suspended for a wrong start, the 22-year-old, who is wise and courageous beyond his years, did not complain or cause anyone any trouble,” Boko said.

The President further challenged Batswana to continue demonstrating love for peace and stability for the next 59 years.

“Let us continue to succeed many times beyond the low standards that others have expected of us, let us continue to develop our talents and abilities and speak so loudly that the whole world will fail to ignore our voice,” he said.

However, turning to the sombre news that for the first time in history Government is unable to provide for the festivities as per the norm, Boko revealed that he had been informed that private businesses had contributed about P2 million worth of food to be distributed to different districts.
