The time has come for The Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) to make clear its stance that it will not support opposition parties outside of the Umbrella for Democratic Change ( UDC). Johnson Motshwarakgole said this on Sunday in Mochudi at the launch of Mochudi West UDC parliamentary candidate Gilbert Mangole.

“The UDC is our brainchild. We conceptualised the idea of a united opposition during the nationwide industrial strike in 2011, and were at the forefront of negotiations towards unity,” he said. He thus called for a unified voice and action by the conglomerate’s affiliate members in support of the UDC. He castigated those members who he said wanted to renege on the idea, under the pretext they needed to first get a mandate from the membership.

Motshwarakgole said all four opposition parties through their presidents, Dumelang Saleshando of Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Duma Boko of Botswana National Front (BNF), Motlatsi Molapisi of the Botswana People’s Party (BPP) and the late Gomolemo Motswaledi of the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) had agreed that any party that pulled out from opposition cooperation should be punished.
